his turn.

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

As previously mentioned, Brett and I take turns planning Valentine’s Day each year and 2010 just happened to be his turn (lucky duck). And since I know you all couldn’t care less are dying of curiosity, I am proud to report—he didn’t disappoint. Flowers, twinkle lights, floating candles, heart candies, a delicious home cooked dinner, and cocktails made from (wait for it….) sugar free go girls! ”Pinktinis” to be exact—he knows me so well. Sigh. It was perfectly sweet and romantic. Who knew our little dining room table could look so beautiful?

And then of course we exchanged homemade cards, our one steadfast Valentine’s tradition. We had to be extra creative this year since our printer was out of ink (and has been for three weeks now—whoops). In the end, our cards reflected a lovely sense of simplicity, a trait I consistently adore and appreciate.

Did you all have a nice Valentine’s Day? Or, anti-Valentine’s Day? ;)

be my valentine.

Ahhh Valentine’s Day. Such a funny little holiday you are, if I can even call you a holiday. Of course I hate to be cynical, but I must admit your popularity has been slightly manipulated by Hallmark. Regardless—I, like so many other women, can’t seem to help myself when I see pink-infested store displays of endless chocolates, cards, and heart-shaped baking supplies.

Confession: I love love.

And I love everything related to love. So Valentine’s Day, you win. I have already purchased a ridiculous amount of twilight-themed conversation hearts (and when I say purchased, I mean opened the bag on the drive home and immediately started digesting), and I am already counting down the days till February 14th.

Mostly because Brett and I take turns planning Valentine’s Day, and this is his lucky year. I’m 14% positive that he has already started planning. Sometimes we go big, and sometimes we go small. There is only one rule: you must bring a homemade card to dinner.

This will be our sixth Valentine’s Day together (seriously??), and we have twelve homemade cards to prove it. Past favorites include: the giant card, the photo card, the marshmallow card, the confetti filled card, the pop-up card (ha), the special effects card, and the cut-out magazine letter card, which slightly resembled a ransom note, come to think of it.

This year? I’m thinking understated elegance in the form of simplicity.

Stay tuned for photos—on February 15th of course. I’m almost 18% positive that my husband reads my blog on a regular basis.
