make it monday: terrariums.

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Last Thursday, Monica and Olga hosted another lovely evening of Scraps & Sh*t. What is Scraps & Sh*t, you ask? Well, it’s basically friends + sangria + crafts + snacks + good conversation. Oh, and twinkle lights too. In one word, it’s amazing.

sacramento perpetual calendar: part two.

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Gallivanting around Sacramento is easily one of my favorite past times. Last Monday as we reveled in the glory of our three-day weekend, B and I did just that. We dined at Paesanos, picked up frozen yogurt at Mochii, and made some lovely additions to our perpetual calendar project. If only we had three-day weekends every weekend….

Photos taken from: Crimson and Clover, French Cuff Consignment, The Bread Store parking lot, Britt Steele, the Denim Spot, Sugar Shack, Mochii, Hot Italian, and Spanish Fly Hair Garage.

{ p.s. Yes, I used the new camera this time around, and yes the photos turned out much better. 99% positive I am going to scrap the first batch and go from here. Please don’t hate me and my perfectionist ways. }

One photo missing from my recent afternoon of treasure hunting was this little beauty. Priced at three whole dollars and full of potential, I snatched this up last week with a vision in mind.

The before:

and the after…..

Ta-da! Now we have a place to stash letters, hang keys, and write notes to each other. And I just LOVE the secret compartment on the right side. Although now you’ve seen it, so I suppose it’s not such a secret anymore.

Have you made anything lovely lately?

make it monday: key holder.

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Friday night Liz and Erin came over for a lovely evening of crafts + cocktails. And by cocktails, I mean three failed attempts at raspberry mojitos before we finally got it right. Note to self: sweetened lime juice is an imperative ingredient. Whoops!

We decided to make decorative key holders, based on a lovely tutorial from Design Sponge.

It was slightly more time-consuming than we had anticipated, but a cute project nonetheless. My bottom ribbon has a tiny lump in it from being wrapped around cardboard, but it will smooth out over time. Now I just need to find some extra keys to hang. Ta-da!

My next to-do project? A more sophisticated version of this adorable paper bird painting.

sacramento perpetual calendar: part one.

If you are one of the sweet 33 people who read my blog on a regular basis (yes, I officially have 33 whole subscribers and feel so loved), you may remember me writing about my polaroid ambitions after receiving a beautiful fuji instax camera for Christmas. Recap = I could not wait to start my first polaroid-related mission: make a perpetual calendar using all Sacramento photos.

Someone please give me an E for effort. Seriously, I deserve it.

After spending an hour downtown attempting said mission, I am embarrassed to tell you it was a complete and utter epic failure. Insert sigh here _____. Four horrible photos later (and not to mention, four whole dollars down the drain), I was feeling completely defeated. Getting the numbers centered on the teeny tiny instax film was going to be next to impossible, and VERY expensive. In a nutshell, two of my least favorite characteristics.

But alas, I was not going to give up on my dreams of creating a Sacramento perpetual calendar so I quickly regrouped and decided to use my good ole Canon for this project. Point, click, shoot, and edit if necessary. Although as we discovered yesterday, the preview screen made every shot nearly perfect. I’m also BFF’s with my macro setting, so that helped the process even more. Here’s a little preview for you:

Photos shown here were taken from: Edward Scissorhands, Brit Steele, a Midtown parking space, Zoot’s, Elle 23 Salon, and the California State PTA office (obviously). Coffee photo was taken from Peet’s in midtown, and the flowers from Kennedy Gallery.

Fabulous suggestions are always welcome, so feel free to state your ideas here.

Otherwise, you can spot me out and about in the next few weeks taking mysterious photos of doors while people stare. Don’t worry–it’s more fun than it sounds.

Wondering what it will look like when it’s finished? Read the original post here.
