make it monday: terrariums.

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Last Thursday, Monica and Olga hosted another lovely evening of Scraps & Sh*t. What is Scraps & Sh*t, you ask? Well, it’s basically friends + sangria + crafts + snacks + good conversation. Oh, and twinkle lights too. In one word, it’s amazing.

make it monday: simple smile board.

Confession: I don’t believe in inspiration boards. I’m not judging those of you who do, but simply telling you where I stand. Do I believe in making goals and working hard to achieve them? Absolutely. Do I believe putting photos of my goals on a board is going to send a message to the Universe that ultimately makes them happen? Not so much.

However, I’ve always held a deep affection for bulletin boards and collages. Enter: the smile board. I’ve been looking for ways to spruce up my cubicle ever since, well….my first day on the job. When I found a plain bulletin board at Goodwill for $1 a few weeks ago, I decided a smile board was just what I needed.

A bit of cheery orange paint, some lovely ribbon and a few buttons later, I had a pretty board to work with before adding photos that make me smile. Currently making me smile? Him, the way he looks at me, summer fruit, taking photos, our love and upcoming anniversary, chocolate (always), and scenic views.

What’s making you smile today?

p.s. Anna is hosting “made this myself” week and will be making lots of lovely things….be sure to pay her a visit!

One photo missing from my recent afternoon of treasure hunting was this little beauty. Priced at three whole dollars and full of potential, I snatched this up last week with a vision in mind.

The before:

and the after…..

Ta-da! Now we have a place to stash letters, hang keys, and write notes to each other. And I just LOVE the secret compartment on the right side. Although now you’ve seen it, so I suppose it’s not such a secret anymore.

Have you made anything lovely lately?

make it monday: key holder.

Friday night Liz and Erin came over for a lovely evening of crafts + cocktails. And by cocktails, I mean three failed attempts at raspberry mojitos before we finally got it right. Note to self: sweetened lime juice is an imperative ingredient. Whoops!

We decided to make decorative key holders, based on a lovely tutorial from Design Sponge.

It was slightly more time-consuming than we had anticipated, but a cute project nonetheless. My bottom ribbon has a tiny lump in it from being wrapped around cardboard, but it will smooth out over time. Now I just need to find some extra keys to hang. Ta-da!

My next to-do project? A more sophisticated version of this adorable paper bird painting.
