Friday, February 26th, 2010“it’s a baby.”
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010There are few moments in life that surpass the perfection of last night.
Six friends + one couch + one stunningly beautiful newborn baby girl.
Sitting in our pjs, sharing, listening, praying for one another, and laughing so hard we cried. We each took turns holding the tiny miracle, and couldn’t help but stare at her perfect face in awe.
All of the silly worries of the day seemed to evaporate into thin air, because at that moment in time, everything was as it should be.
This week’s thought: I am way too blessed to be stressed.

sacramento perpetual calendar: part one.
Sunday, February 21st, 2010If you are one of the sweet 33 people who read my blog on a regular basis (yes, I officially have 33 whole subscribers and feel so loved), you may remember me writing about my polaroid ambitions after receiving a beautiful fuji instax camera for Christmas. Recap = I could not wait to start my first polaroid-related mission: make a perpetual calendar using all Sacramento photos.
Someone please give me an E for effort. Seriously, I deserve it.
After spending an hour downtown attempting said mission, I am embarrassed to tell you it was a complete and utter epic failure. Insert sigh here _____. Four horrible photos later (and not to mention, four whole dollars down the drain), I was feeling completely defeated. Getting the numbers centered on the teeny tiny instax film was going to be next to impossible, and VERY expensive. In a nutshell, two of my least favorite characteristics.
But alas, I was not going to give up on my dreams of creating a Sacramento perpetual calendar so I quickly regrouped and decided to use my good ole Canon for this project. Point, click, shoot, and edit if necessary. Although as we discovered yesterday, the preview screen made every shot nearly perfect. I’m also BFF’s with my macro setting, so that helped the process even more. Here’s a little preview for you:
Photos shown here were taken from: Edward Scissorhands, Brit Steele, a Midtown parking space, Zoot’s, Elle 23 Salon, and the California State PTA office (obviously). Coffee photo was taken from Peet’s in midtown, and the flowers from Kennedy Gallery.
Fabulous suggestions are always welcome, so feel free to state your ideas here.
Otherwise, you can spot me out and about in the next few weeks taking mysterious photos of doors while people stare. Don’t worry–it’s more fun than it sounds.
Wondering what it will look like when it’s finished? Read the original post here.
here’s my heart.
Sunday, February 21st, 2010I will never love another song as much as this one:
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

antiquing.
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010an·tiqu·ing [an-teek-ing]–verb (used without object) to shop for or collect antiques.
Welcome to my new favorite pastime.
Last Sunday, Brett and I went on a lovely Valentine’s Day excursion to the Second Sunday Antique Fair on 21st and X street. Not really knowing what to expect, we arrived with one crisp $20.00 in hand and no plan whatsoever. I imagined I would find all sorts of treasures, and my dreams quickly met the same reality. Old typewriters, rotary phones, vintage dresses, oh my! It was quite a sight to be seen.
Of course you have to take the good with the bad. The bad being things like dirty marbles retailing for $1.00 a pop (really?!) and an ugly pair of $300 outdoor pink flamingos. But if you are a patient treasure hunter like myself, you will not leave empty handed. And let’s be honest—isn’t hunting half the fun? Two feathers and one vintage suitcase later, I was well on my way to making a couple of new headbands, and a lovely suitcase end table.
If you heart vintage suitcases as much as I do, check out my friday favorites post from a few weeks ago.
My sweet friend Suzanne also scored at the Antique Fair and purchased a lovely vintage camera. Read about it here.
Happy antiquing!
(yes, it’s a real verb—check the dictionary)
