The other day I was sorting through photos on my computer, trying to get organized with folders and labels and external hard drives and things of that nature when I stumbled across a big batch of Greece photos that I never even edited. I got sucked in, big time, and spent two straight hours looking at pictures from our magical trip last year.
And, well, it made me a tiny bit sad. Sad in a nostalgic way of course, knowing that we are in a new season of life now—a wonderful, joyous, wouldn’t-trade-it-for-anything season—but, a new season nonetheless. And, well, the thing is…sometimes I miss the old season. I think that’s normal, just like I know the day will come when Everett is driving away to college (yes, driving, not flying), and I will terribly miss this season, the season of first baths and first smiles and mountains of diapers and middle-of-the-night baby cries.
I know I post a lot of pictures from this season (pictures of Everett, not necessarily of the mountains of diapers), but this week I am going to step into my virtual time machine and feature some of my favorite photos from our seven days in Santorini…

Oh they’re just so gorgeous!
I am trying very hard to appreciate this season with my husband because it’ll be a new, tired, diaper-filled season before we know it!

There’s a lot of joy that accompanies the tiredness and diapers, but yes….it’s a very, very different season
I visited Greece 9 years ago (can’t believe it’s been that long) and it was just the most amazing place. I would go back in a heartbeat. Now my vacation days are used as sick days, and a few days off for a road trip are enough to get me excited. So I totally understand your meaning of missing the old season!

Hey Ash –
I am so happy that you stumbled across these photos. They are absolutely gorgeous! And, yes, this is a different season in life, it will pass all too quickly. Dad and I had so many conversations about how fast 20 years had flown by when you were moving out and into your new home to attend UC Davis and marry Brett. While we kept saying you lived with us for 20 years and that seems like such a long time – it honestly felt like the time passed in the blink of an eye. So this is just a reminder to enjoy all your seasons of life to the fullest and of course take lots of photos along the way!!!
Love you, Mom
I feel like Everett is going to be driving off to college before I know it. *sobs*
Aw, I love reminiscing : ) Your photos are so gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to go there.

Doooooo it.
These pictures are AMAZING! They alone have completely inspired a Greece trip somewhere in my future. I know you wrote about this occasionally while pregnant, but I’m sorta kinda having one of those freak out days where I’m really starting to realize just how much life is going to change. It’s my last week at work before my leave (I have come to the same place for the last 5 and a half years) and I know our spur of the moment trips to Napa or planned vacations (like our last in Costa Rica) definitely won’t be as frequent. As excited as we are to welcome our son, it’s just amazing how many different emotions (up and down) you go through during pregnancy. I guess what I’m trying to say is thank you, it’s a nice reminder to know that other people go through this too!
I had more freak out days near the end, too
Totally normal I think. I am getting so excited for you!!!
beautiful photos, what a cute outfit too!
