vintage chair makeover.

A few months ago, I met up with some girlfriends to go garage sale-ing. We grabbed coffee and strolled around East Sacramento, chatting and hunting for treasures. I picked up a few books, a picture frame, and this chair;

It was, most certainly, a nothing waiting to be turned into a something. With a fresh coat of paint and some new fabric, my bedroom now has a pretty addition…

Ta-da! Fun fact: this chair was built in 1926, the same year the Cal Western Life Insurance building was built, which is now the ever so glamorous Citizen Hotel, which is where I work! Good times.

    YOU ARE MY HERO. I can’t even handle how gorgeous that chair is. And it’s in one of my favorite colors! Spill the beans: what color/type of paint is that? It’s making me swoooooon.

  5. I see a painting tutorial in your future.

    Would you like to paint some of my furniture?

    I haev been wanting to to a project like this forever! I always had in mind that I would do a little bench.
    How was the upholstering part? I’ve never done that part of a re-purposing project, so I don’t know how difficult that would be…

    Where’d you get that fabric? So cute!

  9. It turned out great!! But this post is making me sad that the chairs I bought are both still sitting in my garage, covered in cobwebs, desperate for their own makeover. Ahhh…they will have to wait. :( Unless of course you want to come over and re-do them. ha.

    @Kerri – Funny about the paint. First I spray painted it with primer. Then spray painted it with Tuscan Sun (my favorite coral spray paint ever), but it was still too light for the other colors in my room. I ended up bringing in a piece of artwork that hangs over our bed into Lowes and grabbing a paint swatch that matched it exactly. Bought a little sample of that color for $4 and it was more than enough!

    @Tami – Thank you. But no thank you ;)

    @Holly – I meant to take pictures as we did that part but totally forgot. It was surprisingly easy! You just pop the seat off, remove the nails (or staples) from the fabric. Put your new fabric on, wrap it around, and nail or staple it underneath. Then pop the seat back on! Way easier than you think!

    @Jenn – Fabric is from goodwill (as are half of my other possessions).

    @Lesley – You’re nine months pregnant. I think you have a good excuse. I might be willing to work on your chairs in exchange for baby time…

    I absolutely LOVE it Ash. You make it sound so easy, I should totally try. Did you have to buy a staple gun to re-upholster with the new fabric?
