Three beautiful days of our Greece trip will be spent in Athens at the Hotel Grande Bretagne (does anyone know how to pronounce that?). Needless to say, I was SUPER excited to stumble across their Flickr page a few weeks ago. This will be, by far, the most fancy shmancy hotel I have ever stayed at. They have BUTLER SERVICE for crying out loud. This hotel is the polar opposite of our cave hotels in Santorini, so I’m excited to see the best of both worlds!
p.s. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your sweet comments and e-mails after my last post. Brett and I read through every single one and were overwhelmed at the outpouring of love we received. Your prayers and thoughts mean the world to us.

Wow, that looks absolutely amazing….. it’s kind of funny that there is a hotel in Greece with a French name

The hotel you’ve picked, is actually one of the oldest, most prestigious and most luxurious in Athens
It’s right on Syntagma Square as well, so @ a VERY advantageous location (right next to the metro & Ermou shopping street/ real close to Monastiraki, Zapeio, Acropolis etc.)
As for Santorini, I’m not sure if you guys have ever been there before but if not…prepare to fall in love! My recommendations?
- Make sure to take the boat from Athinios to the volcano and swim in the warm waters (but, whatever you do, DO NOT wear light coloured/ white swim suits)
- Have cocktails (once -since the place is quite expensive) @ the AZUR cocktail lounge bar in Fira (smack in the middle of the caldera, amazing atmosphere & view, EXCELLENT service)
- Have a slice of pizza at the main square, after a late night out…
- Be VERY clear on the bus schedules -in case you don’t rent a car and use them to get around (especially the leaving times and places for beaches, ie. Perivolos)
- Think long and hard about going to Oia for the sunset. Everything is packed and the end result is not that fascinating anyway. You might be better off watching the sunset from Imerovigli, or the caldera @ Fira.
Ps. If you need any help and/or pointers, feel free to drop me a line. Have been to both places like a million times (being Greek an’ all
)
ENJOY!!
